TAP III

We are now offering treatment for snoring and sleep apnea disorders. We use an intra oral appliance on the upper and lower teeth that bring the lower jaw forward and increase the air flow to the lungs. We work in conjunction with a sleep medicine specialist to accomplish the best diagnosis and result. If you are concerned about sleep disorders, we can help you.

BRUSH AFTER EVERY MEAL

The Midlife Shortcut
Put down the toothbrush and
Pick up the mouthwash

Or a toothpick. Or gum. Or a glass of water. It's not necessary to brush your teeth after every meal if you do something else to remove the food debris.

Why there's Wiggle room
Brushing when you get up and before you go to bed is just fine, according to Edmond Hewlett, DDS, of the UCLS School of Dentistry. In fact, Hewlett says it's a bad idea to brush right after consuming acidic foods or beverages such as wine, orange juice and most soft drinks. "The acidity slightly softens tooth enamel," he explains. So habitually brushing right after eating these foods can contribute to tooth sensitivity and cavities. Chewing sugarless gum has other benefits besides removing food residue. It also increases saliva, which contains minerals that help replace the enamel lost to acidic food and acid-producing mouth bacteria. That's particularly important after age 40, when your natural saliva production starts to decrease. And if the gum contains xylitol, youÕll get an added bonus: this sugar substitute inhibits the growth of cavity-causing bacteria.

CARIES RISK ASSESSMENT

Our office is now providing our clients a "Caries Risk Assessment" categorization. This assessment begins with a low risk category and will rise towards an extreme risk category. Decay preventive measures will be prescribed depending upon the risk classification given to you. The amount and frequency of tooth caries determines the risk category.

Following Example

Risk Category: Moderate
Preventive Measures: Prevident 5000 Fluoride toothpaste at bedtime; ACT rinse during
the day and Fluoride Varnish at each recare appt..
We are constantly striving to decrease the amount of decay in the mouth
